Installing Wonderboard Over Plywood
#1

I have a really quick quesion;
How "flat" do the screw heads have to be when installing wonderboard? I am having a hard time because I was told not to countersink them.
Thoughts?

They should be flush and not sit proud of the backerboard. You did use backerboard screws, right? The main thing is to not overtighten the screws as it can cause ridges around the screw head, or worse, crack the backerboard.

Hello Merlin,
Thanks for your reply.
The screw heads are up just a bit. We had a very difficult time getting them to sit flush. Do you know if there is a special bit I should be using to install the screws?
Also, yes, we did use backerboard screws.

If you are using a drill that can switch between high speed and high torque, switch it to high torque. When tightening a screw that is providing a lot of resistance it is better to apply more force at a slower speed.
