How Clean Does the Floor Need to Be

I am installing slate floor tiles in my entry. I have removed the old hardwood and scraped up all the loose old adhesive off the cement slab. I used a hammer and a scraper to remove any high spots and got the surface pretty clean and level. Basically, I have removed everything I could remove by hand. Do I need to remove ALL traces of the old adhesive before setting my tiles? If so, how do I do that? I will probably need to rent something or someone as my tool arsenal is not that extensive. Comments, suggestions, and words to calm my worried wife would be appreciated.

Rent a hand grinder from the closest box store. It will quickly remove all trace of old glue and help level your floor. Needed to do the same thing in an old bathroom. Worked like a charm.

You can try some real hot water and a wallpaper scraper to get the remainder up. A stain in the concrete will stay behind, dont worry about that.
