tile over plywood

yes not a good idea, 1/4" cbu unavailable 1/2" no go hieght issue, what i have is 2x5/8" ply on engineered 10" joist 16" on center span of 10', looking at using a paint on membrane with fabric on to the ply then tile, what my chance of failure hate to have a redo.

1/4" cbu not available? Where you shopping? I'd go with a sheet membrane before a trowel on membrane any day of the week. If you go with a trowel on membrane, be sure to let it fill into the gaps between plywood sheets and flat trowel the membrane to ensure full contact into the grain of the ply. It will work, just not my first choice.
