Tile over tile?

I need to change the tile or tile over the 2' x 4' area in front of my fireplace. Can I place the ceramic tile over the "red" tile or do I need to pull it up?

Usually its no problem using acylic in the thin set. If it is a shinny tile you may have to acid etch it first. Put on some thin set and let it set overnight, if it sticks you're good to go, if not, etch first. This is usually easier then tear outs.

Thanks! The red tile is very dull like clay.
