ceramic tile over wood floor

We have oak engineered wood glued on the concrete slab that has large (24" diameter) black spots from moisture under the wood. We have had our plumbing tested and know that is not the problem and have been told that our slab absorbs moisture and the only way to go is with ceramic tile. Can we put the tile directly over the wood? What about a moisture barrier on top of the wood? If no to any of this, how hard is it to remove the glued down wood? What would be the process?

Any info would be great!!
Thanks!

You cannot tile over that wood floor - it has to go.

You also need to find and eliminate the source of the moisture - just tiling over the slab may not solve your problem.

If that wood is filled with moisture it won't provide a good surface for putting down ceramic tile. It is much easier to level the tile out on a solid surface. That way you're not stubbing toes on uneven tiles! Also, besides the moisture, with the concrete there will expanding and contracting with the heat and cold. Over time your tiles might come loose and start to pop up. They have sub-flooring designed for laying down tile. It may cost more, but it's well worth it in the end.

There is nothing you can put over that wood, remove it and check the slab.

What do you mean "check the slab"? For cracks? With a moisture reader? What if the moisture is too high.....do we have to go back to carpet? Is there some kind of moisture barrier, either painted on or in sheets, that we can put down before we tile?

Check for cracks, paint or sealers, don't seal it with anything, if dry enough that it absorbs water when put on the concrete, it's fine to set tile.
