Special prep neeeded?

I'm going to be tiling my basement floor, house is only 2 years old and floor "seems" to be level. Is there any special prep I need to do to the floor first or can I just tile over it.

I haven't, or should I say, the wife hasen't , picked the tile yet. Any specific type tile I should look for to do a basement floor or just ask where I'm going to buy the tile?

When you say level to you really mean flat? Run a long straight edge over the floor in different directions to see if the floor is flat. Report back with this info. Are there any cracks in the slab? If so describe them. Has the slab been painted or sealed?

Ran an 8 foot piece of 1/4 inch steel angle over the floor and found one or two spots that were maybe a 1/4 inch low. Other than that the floor is flat, never been painted or sealed and has one crack, about 4 -5 feet long in one of the expansion joints.
