Fireplace Hearth, Marble on top of tile

I have a small 4' X 2' fireplace hearth that is tile currently. Can I just install marble tile directly on top? Thanks!

If the tile is currently in good shape, no loose tiles, no cracked grout you can go over it. Rough up the glaze of the existing tile with some rough grit sand paper and clean the dust up good. Use a good modified thinset to set the tile.

No, the tile is in pretty good shape. So, just rough it up and go from there, huh? Thanks, a million! That saves me atleast a days work!
