Exclamation Help!! How would you tile this area? 38" X 39 w/ 12" Tiles???

I measured incorrectly and have a 38 1/4 X 39 1/2 square infront of my entry way door. Adding wood to frame it out is not an option. Please tell me what you would do w/ 12" slate tiles.

Need to get this done ASAP. Baby coming next week.

Looking for any ideas here.. .
THanks,
Jay

If 38 1/4" by 39 1/2" is a square then you defiinetly "measured incorrectly". Just joking but I couldnt resist.

There are not many options here. If you dont want to "frame it out" then you will be forced to use something less than full tiles around the border. Find the center of the rectangle. Do your layout such that four tiles will touch the center of the rectangle. Then fill in around the four tiles with cut tiles. The cut tiles will range from 7" to 7 1/2".

You could also do a diagonal pattern in the middle and frame it with cut pieces of slate. You would end up with framing of approx 2" wide pieces on two sides and approx 2 1/2" wide pieces on the other two sides. This would probably look better.
