Talking Which Type of Tiles should i use????

i am beginning a project in my family room. i have a wood burning fireplace and once in awhile, a hot ember gets thru the chained fence and burns holes in the carpet that is currently there. I want to use some type of tiles that won't burn...and can survive my husbands dropping the firewood on the floor in front of the fireplace... Or should I get rid of him and just have a nice floor there!!!!!!! lol

Tile in front of fireplace

Porcelain tile is highly scratch and heat resistant and should perform well in front of a fireplace. Tile in front of a fireplace would be far safer than carpet for the occasional flying ember. Too, clean up is much easier.
