Question stain on unsealed slate

I have a newly installed unsealed slate floor. Some one dropped some melted cheese on it. It dried and I picked it up and it left a grease spot. It is blueish grey slate. Any suggestions on how to clean it so we can seal it? I tried water and some "green" cleaner and that didn't remove the stain. And where I put the cleaner seemed to have lightened in color. I am really afraid I have ruined my floor. Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to clean the floor?? Thank you.

You can try some denatured alcohol. That has seemed to work on pulling up some stains.

Some people have used mineral spirits, but I am unfamiliar with using that on slate.

There are commercial pumices available for lifting oil stains from natural stone. AquaMix and Stonetech are two brands that come to mind. Pumice can be mixed with denatured alcohol to form a paste which can be applied to stain and allowed to dry and lift stain. Repeat applications may be necessary.
