Evening newly exposed tile edge

I recently removed some carpet that butted against tile. I am replacing the carpet with tile and where the new tile meets the old tile, the old tile edge is uneven- because it was hidden by the previous carpet edge. How can I even up the edge of the pre-existing tile, while it remains on the floor, so that it looks good against the new tile? I tried a dremel tool without much luck...

You should install a T moulding for these transitions.

Thanks for the advice, but I went a different route. I purchased an angle grinder with a tile blade and, using a metal T-square, cut the tile and created a straight edge. worked great.
