Tile on Concrete

I am installing a bath in my basement. The concrete floor in the proposed bathroom presently has a coating of dry-lock paint covering it (there is no water problem). Can I put ceramic tile over this or do I need to put down Durock/equivalent? What is the method of attaching Durock to concrete?

Thanks for your expertise!

You shouldn't tile over any painted concrete, it will not bond properly. Rent a concrete scarifier to remove the paint.

The method for installing Durock over concrete is nonexistant, because you don't do this. Backerboard go over plywood floors, not concrete.

If your concrete is free of cracks, you can tile directly over it with a good modified/fortied thinset.

If you have cracks, I would invest in an underlayment like Schluter Ditra.
