Mastic near gas fireplace?

I have a direct-vent gas fireplace (Lennox ELDV). I intend to install granite tile around it, mostly on drywall, slightly overlapping the edges of the unit. So the tile will get a little warm -- the glass can get fairly hot, but drywall is just lukewarm.

Is this appropriate place to use mastic (AcrylPro) or can the moderate heat be a problem? If not, what can I use? (I prefer to use this because I have some, and can get it at HomeDepot... please don't send me on a wild-goose chase for some specialized material unless it's absolutely necessary)

Thanks!

Don't use anything that comes in a bucket.
If it were mine, I would have used cement board instead of drywall.
Use a powered thinset you mix with water. HD sells Versabond, and Lowes sells Mapai products.
