Backer Board over OSB

I want to install 12"x12" tile in a hall way 4' wide. Can I set the 1/4" backer board in thinset on 3/4" T&G OSB?

Thanks

Is the tile ceramic or natural stone? If ceramic, yes. If natural stone no. It makes a difference.

Thanks Heresjohnny

It is ceramic tile and the joist are on 16" OC with only a 4' span due to walls in the basement.

There is no problem with moisture from the thinset causing the OSB to swell?
