finding replacements for old ceramic tile?

Hi all.

I have a small bathroom with classic old 4x4 ceramic tile flooring. I need to replace a few of the tiles, and so I ran to Lowes and found tile very similar. I thought I was all set until I got home and noticed that my tiles were about 1/16" bigger than the Lowes tiles, making mine roughly 4-5/16" x 4-5/16".

Clearly I'm up against the age-old problem of replacing something that's very old, but I'm hoping that one of you has encountered a similar issue and can point me towards a place that can help me find the tiles I need.

Thanks in advance for your help!

* bump *

Can anyone help me? I took a closer look and the tile is actually 4-3/8 x 4-3/8, but I still need to track them down.

Any ideas out there?

There is no magical place. The only suggestion would be to get with the original manufacturer and have them give you a list of who they distribute too. Maybe, just maybe one of them might have some depending on age, but when tile is discontinued, it's nearly impossible to find them again. Even if you do find some tile, it prolly won't match because of different lot #'s.

what Mark is saying. is that your chance is slim to none, a lot closer to none.
if the tiles you bought are darn close, use em, count your blessings, and move on to the next project.

Buy some contrasting tile and make a nice accent design. Be creative. This will often look better than the tile that doesnt quite match.
