cleaning old claw foot tub
#1

HELLO! I have an old claw foot tub in excellent shape. The finish is in good shape inside the tub, except it has gotten dull. Is there any product to clean and shine up the surface?
I've tried the refinishing route on other tubs, but the finish is rather delicate. Since this is in one of my rental properties, I hesitate to go that route. Thanks

Hi Gail,
I don't think there is a way to restore the gloss. It sounds like you might have some mineral deposit problems. If that is the case removing them might restore the luster.
To see if this is the case, take an old dish towel and saturate it good with straight white distilled vinegar. Lay that over one spot and let it set even overnight. Keep the towel saturated.
After several hours take some baking soda and scrub. If that doesn't help then the problem is not a mineral buildup. If it improves the looks, then repeat this for the entire tub. If it doesn't help, refinishing is the only thing to restore it.
