backerboard installation question

I am remodeling a second floor bathroom and plan to tile the floor. It currently is 5/8" plywood over 2X9 joists with a 5ft span.
My questions is - do I install the backer board over the entire floor including the area where the new cast iron (heavy) tub will be installed or do I install additional subflooring and run the backer board up to the edge of where the tub will go?
Hope some one can help me out as all the DYI stuff don't show or explain this.

No, you don't need it under the tub.
