Question Non-vitreous tile for tub surround?

Hey all!

Got this nice looking textured tile (Hampton Sand at HD), which is glazed porcelain, but non-vitreous. Read many mixed opinions about using this type in showers/tub surrounds. Any ideas?

I'll be setting them in Flexbond over hardi, then grout with Polyblend and seal with SurfaceGard.

Thanks in advance!!!!

It will be fine for walls and surrounds, just not floor.

Don't forget to install plastic barrier on studs and tape your board seams.

Oh absolutely! I'm putting 15# felt on studs with asphalt cement (btw will asphalt cement affect the acrylic of the tub?), and then mudding the hardi seams with mesh tape. The hardest part of this whole job is leveling the darn framing for the hardi, and also firring it out so the hardi goes over the tub flange. UGH So frustrating!

Thank you! I'm glad I can still stick to these tiles! I think I'll get 511 Impregnator JIC, instead of SurfaceGard. Local HD carries it.
