Grout Sealer
#1
I recently finnished my first tile floor, with the valuable info I got from this site I should add, and I bought a grout sealer but it does not give enough information about putting it on. Do I put it on the grout only or all over everything? It says that it is permanent and will not come off, ever! That scared me enough to ask this question. Also, will it stain the tiles? Thanks for being here to ask what are probably silly questions to.

Hi Family,
Most floor tiles won't accept sealer, so you put it on the grout only. It really depends on the tile though. Can you tell us something about that?

I'm sorry, but "ceramic floor tiles from Mexico" doesn't tell me much. Are the tiles dense and hard? Or are they like Saltillo, which is very soft? What grade are they?
Here's what you can do. In an inconspicuous spot, drop a little sealer on a tile to find out whether the tile will absorb it. If it does, seal tile and grout together. If it won't soak in, just seal the grout. There's a little article on my site that addresses it. You can also check with the people you bought the tile from. What do they recommend?

Saltillo tiles are another thing entirely. Happen to have a piece on that also.
