Tile/stone type?

I have a bathroom floor with dull 1" black and white tiles, built in 1947.
Is it most likely the tiles are porcelain, or is possible they are marble or granite and can be refinished?
I'd appreciate any thoughts.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi,

I put my money that the tiles are porcelain. But since they're unglazed porcelain, you can apply a polish if you want to. After a very thorough cleaning you can apply several coats to reach the gloss level you want. Being that it's topical, you'll need to apply more in time as necessary.
