Cleaning colored grout vs. colourant

Hi, the grout in our kitchen is kind of blue gray (15 years old) and I cannot get it clean. Plus all the times I have tried has now caused it to be differing shades. I have seen ads for a grout colourant, I guess that's like a dye? Anyway, do you think I shoud keep trying to clean, and what would you recommend I use, or just go with a new color? Does it have to be a similar color, or could I change it to maybe gray? And which brand is best to use? Thanks in advance!

Hi Suzy,

You may have not cleaned with the right cleaner, or maybe didn't seal it? No matter now. At this stage it's probably best to apply a grout colorant and be done with it.

Grout colorants are epoxy based which means you should never need to seal it, (actually you can't seal it), plus it'll be easier to clean. There are several brands, but I've used AquaMix with good results and it seems to be the most popular brand.

I think HD bought the company several years ago, and so try the orange place.

Thanks, do I have to be careful to keep it off the ceramic tile, or will it wipe off the sealed tile?

You'll want to read all about it. It's fairly easy, just takes time. http://www.custombuildingproducts.co...er=pro&lang=en
