grout color

i put down a sample of a brown grout, "summer wheat" (under washer/drier) to see how the color matched the tile. its too dark. but in a few places, the grout turned light brown. what could have caused this ? and is it possible to do this on purpose ?

also. i used "linen" grout on my back splash. it dried noticably lighter than when wet. but the summer wheat did not
whats up with this ?

thanx

Grout mixed too wet will dry with a white cast to it. Did you mix it all the same batch or on different days, etc.

well, as it turned out, it didn't dry all that dark. seems it wasn't completely dry at the time.

as far as being too wet. i am thinking that if the grout is wiped down with too wet of a sponge. the color will vary throughout the floor. correct ?
this happened in my bathroom, and it looks GREAT !

Since grout isn't that thick, IMO a too wet sponge will introduce more water into the mix, and, yes, cause the same type problem.
