Product to remove masonite type padding glued to concrete floor???

We have just removed a wood floor from an apartment in Manhattan. We are left with a Masonite type padding/sound proofing which is glued with a black glue to the concrete floor with which we need to remove and we were wondering if there is a product that you are familiar with that could be applied to remove these surfaces.

Our intention is to install a marble tile product in place of the removed wood flooring.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums! Would it be possible for you to post a couple of pictures (not close ups) of the "padding". I am unfamiliar with anything masonite would have used for such a purpose, and it may help us to give you a better answer. http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...your-post.html

Shouldn't be Masonite. It is sold in 4x8 sheets, similar to plywood.

If you want to put down tile, I'd try only to use hot water and a scraper to remove the stuff.

Is it possible that what you have is a Homosote panel. I do not know about New York but I have seen Homosote used to pad/insulate under floors in this part of the country. Is the material hard or does it dent easily like a wood fiber board or perlite board?

You need to know for sure if your floor is concrete or haydite, before you try to install tile. Many apts have haydite floors.
