How to clean white scum off slate

We have white scum that is impossible for us to clean off our slate (shower floor). I've tried:

* Tile cleaner + scrubbing
* Zep Stone Cleaner
* Stonetech Restore (acidic)

Some of these might be doing something as the water comes off slightly cloudy, but the tile just isn't getting clean. What is it, and how can I clean it off?

Just a guess but it could be efflorescence, a leeching out of salts and minerals from the stone or the mortar underneath. Usually caused by moisture on the other side. When this happens on a brick wall, it is powdery and will wipe or rinse away but in your case it may be trapped under the sealer. You may have some leakage around that drain getting under the slate. Like I said, just a guess and I don't know what to tell you about correcting it. I would try scraping with a razor blade and see if it lifts off or if it is in the stone.

I was able to scrape it off with a razor blade -- it was chalky and caked on (a sheet of paper thick). How do I get rid of it?
