Our first attempt at tiling is proving to be a real challenge. We purchased a tiling kit (float, spacers, trowel etc.) and did not realize that the 1/4" spacers were too big for the wall tiles. TOO Late! We have grouted one wall with unsanded white grout with silicone additive but it is cracking already (3 hours), also I don't think that we put enough grout on. Can we re-grout (grout over top of what is there) this wall? Should we use a sanded grout for the other walls? Can we use a silicone caulk on top of grout? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is not as easy as it looks on t.v. Thanks so much

I just re-grouted kitchen wall tile, and it looks like I did it. I asked clerk at home store to show me what I needed. Upon clerk's advice, I bought a 7 lb. box of grout mix that has sand in it, a scraper to remove the old grout, and a rubber float. I mixed grout according to directions on bag. It said 1 pint of water for 7 pounds. It really looks bad. So, I am going to start over. Did the clerk recommend incorrect grout for wall tiles? Each tile is about 4"x4." Should grout mixture be very thick and sticky? Maybe the consistency was incorrect. Thanks for helping. Kathy D.
