remove floor to tile

remove floor to tile

I want to tile my kitchen the floor has linoleum on cement board on top of two 3/4 in board the cement board is 5/8. I have ceramic tile 20x20x1/4 how much of the old floor do I remove so I can tile?

Welcome to the forums! It is odd to see cement board 5/8" thick for a flooring application. Usually 1/4" is all that is applied. Could you tell us what your floor joist size is, the span between the joists, and the longest unsupported span of the joists? It would help with our figures.

the kitchen is 11ftx20ft the floor joist are 2x10 16 in on center and run the length of the 11ft

yes I guess who ever built the house thought it would be water proof or something, I don't know.
