threshold question
I've gutted the 2nd bathroom and am going to lay ceramic tiles down but have a question about how to account for the height difference: when I get done tiling/ grouting, the newly installed tile floor in the bathroom will be about 1/2" shorter than the carpet at the entry to that room. I'd like to install a stone or marble threshold piece but have never used one before & unsure how to correctly install one with this issue of the different heights. Any suggestions?

Before doing anything are you sure that floor will support tile?
Post a picture of what your dealing with.
Threshold has to go in first and you tile up to it.
It should be sitting in the middle of the jambs.

I'm with Joe - let's start at the basics:
What's the size, spacing and unsupported span of the floor joists and what's the composition of the current floor?

no issues with subfloor.
hardie cement backerboard is already installed and I'm ready to tile; wasn't aware the threshold was supposed to be installed prior to laying down the ceramic tiles but even if I do that, I will have a discrepancy of about 1/2" that I'd like to correct or at least minimize. Do I use a transition strip between the stone/marble threshold piece and the carpet located outside of the bathroom? I couldn't find any videos, instruction or advice addressing this online.
