Baseboards over tile

Question

We've got our new tile floor in - looking good. But now it's time to install the baseboard over it.

The floor is pretty level but, of course, there are some small gaps here and there between the bottom of the baseboard and the floor. With vinyl flooring you would just smear a little caulking and be done with it. We've tried that approach and it looked awful - especially since it tries to pool into the grout lines.

Is there a trick or another option I don't know about? Or am I stuck choosing between ugly gaps or ugly caulking?

Chris,

What about a caulking that matches the color of the grout? Caulkings are available at tile supply stores for just about every color grout made.
