Install one type of flooring on entire first floor?
Hello all!
First floor with concrete subfloor includes raised living room (carpet), which has a pair of steps down to the rest of the first floor (laminate) including the kitchen, dining room, den and laundry room with 1/2 bath. I plan on removing both the carpet and laminate, then replacing entire first floor with new flooring.
Aesthetically, would you install one type of flooring i.e. tile over the entire first floor, making it uniform or install different types of flooring on the raised LR vs. the sunken rest of first floor?

It is entirely up to you and anyone else living there. I have seen homes where every square inch of flooring is the same and I have seen homes where each room was different. Neither jumped out at me as being strange.
That stated, I don't think I would like carpet in the bathroom (or kitchen) although some people do it.

I can recall my parents house back in high school and every room had a different carpet/flooring, some with pretty wild colors. In retrospect it was horrible.
We always try to keep some level of consistency now days. All the bathrooms have common tile, all the carpet is the same, all wood/tile (kitchen, laundry, foyer etc) is same.
I also agree with no carpet in bathrooms, that is about the grossest thing anybody can install!

I have no intention of putting carpet in the bathrooms or kitchen but I am considering carpet on the 2nd floor bedrooms, hallways and stairs.
If I do the entire 1st floor, including raised LR, laundry room and guest bathroom (no longer available), I won't have enough tile to do anywhere else.
If I do JUST the guest bathroom, excluding the attached laundry room, on the 1st floor with the tile I have on hand, then I may be able to do both 2nd floor bathrooms...But I'd have to double check my measurements.

I'm with Furd, do what makes you happy. My dad's house has carpet throughout the living areas and bedrooms but each bedroom has its own different carpet. Both bathrooms have tile but different types while the kitchen is vinyl.
My house is similar except the carpet matches throughout the house, the kitchen is ceramic and one bathroom is vinyl. None of this sticks out to me as out of the ordinary.
