partial mud job on floor

i'm redoing my bathroom and have an 1 1/2 inch drop across the room. to level everything out i'm gonna mud the floor. i layed down new plywood and for the first foot everything is level then the floor slopes down quickly. what i'd like to do is only mud the half of the room that is sloping and leave the part that is level as plywood. i plan on putting usg tile membrane over the whole thing. will this work or am i asking for trouble.

No, it will not work. Mud has to be at least ¾" thick, so you can't just taper it down to a feather edge. You can do it if you maintain it at ¾" then keep it level which will end up at about 2 ¼" across the room.

I'd be figuring out what happened to the floor and fixing that first.

What was the new plywood for, and how thick?
