Advice on small bathroom tiling project
I'm an absolute novice at tiling, but I'm a good learner and would like to try it. The edge of the bathtub setting in my rental apartment looks like the attached photos. I'd like to cover up the ugly edge; no strong preference for how, as long as the outcome looks good. As you can see, it's curved and angled. Landlord is fine with me doing it. What do you suggest I do, and how?

First, that looks like a free standing tub, something that was never intended to have walls right up to the edge. The rounded lip of the tub (where there is quarter round) directs water back into the wall which is very bad.
If you want to tile the half round you show in your photo you will need to first remove what is there. You can not attach tile directly to wood. The thinset mortar will not stick. Also there is no water barrier in that shelf so water will soak through the grout joints into the wood causing it to swell and eventually rot.
