I decided to lay ceramic tiled in our 100 year old homes' entryway. When we finished and allowed the grout to dry, it cracked and chipped right out of the crevices. We have cement backer board underneath, but when pressure is placed on the floor, it sinks, as if the cement board is moving up and down. I suspect that this is why the grout keeps cracking, but how do we keep the cement board from moving? We have tried numerous screws in these areas, but it's not working. Please help!

Wink

Did you glue down(with thin set)the concrete board before you screwed it down? This fills any voids you may have under the board and stops it from moving...and ..was the 100 year old floor you put it on stable?..was it moving before the board was put on? If so, that is a problem also...any movement you have is bad for ceramic tile. If the joints are cracking, then the tile must be loose too. I hate to say it, but you may have to take it out and start again..
