Kitchen: minor floor fix up

Hi. We want to remodel our kitchen next year. In the meantime I'd like a quick fix. We currently have ceramic tile. I was thinking of painting the grout white (it is now black/brown). The thought of painting the tile came across my mind, but I found contact paper that I like which is waterproof and can be used on walls and counters.

Is it a bad idea to use contact paper over each tile? I would cut them in 1'x1' squares (same size we have now) and apply to each tile. I am guessing I would need to seal it? Any thoughts on this?

Thank you!

Contact paper? Really? On a floor? This may take the cake as one of the most ridiculous ideas to date. The life span of your idea would be about 48 hours before they would start peeling up.

Hold for your remodel and live with what you have until then.

Lol- that bad huh? Oh boy. Believe it or not there are a ton of how tos online which is where I got the idea - although I was skeptical. I thought maybe a sealer would help? Would paint hold up if I went that route? The tile is not terrible but I'd like to brighten it up.

How big is the kitchen? If small, you might get a year out of a loose-lay piece of vinyl rolled out over the tile without spending too much. Maybe.

While painting the grout can work ok, painting the tile is not a good idea. Tub and tile paint doesn't have the best track record and applying it to a surface that will be walked on is asking it to fail sooner.

They might have been talking peel and stick vinyl tile. But not sure if it would have much success over ceramic tile. The small format of your tile would cause many ridges and valleys where there would be no adhesion. You would need a flat surface to start with.

Just save your time and money and fix this when you remodel.
