Sealing tile edges

I installed tile in the kitchen backsplash wall and shower. What is the preferred method to seal the joints where the backsplash meets the cabinets and counter backsplash, and how about the edges at the top of the shower and where the tile meets the shower pan? Caulk or grout or ???

Use color matched caulking. Often I use regular white caulk at the top of the shower surround and paint it with the wall/ceiling.

Unsquare bathroom tiling.

Hi there I have an unsquare bathroom. I have enclosed a picture of it with measurements. I will use a hardiebacker I'm just haven't laid it yet. My question is. What is my best course of action here. A-B and C-D width is the same but my lengths A and B are off by an inch. I have enclosed another picture of what the previous tilers did (it looks hacky to me) I really appreciate any help. 1970s bathroom remodel - thoughts?

Hello - great forum here! My wife and I are deciding what to do with our bathroom, in our house built in 1928. The bathroom was remodeled along with the kitchen some time in the 1970s, and the tile is starting to fall off the walls (in large sheets - tile adhesive seems to be failing). I am a light DIY-er and never done tile, so not sure what I am looking at. We are having a few contractors look as well while I try to self-teach how difficult this will be if I DIY it. Looking for some insight into what I am dealing with. My biggest concern is that I can't tell if anything was water-sealed behind the tile in the shower/tub stall. The tile and grout in there is failing as well. There is no good airflow in the room - no ventilation and the window does not open. Also wondering the best way to clean up the stains between the tiles on the floor - we'd like to keep the floor as-is since it's in fine shape and original to the house. All of the walls in the house are still the original plaster, and in pretty good shape. I'd like to avoid tearing everything down to the studs and drywalling/waterproofing the entire room if possible. I knocked down some tile yesterday to see what was underneath - it looks like some kind of backer board with a subway tile pattern (but the tile on top was square?), and it looks like the plasterboard and lathe ends where the tile begins. I can't tell if they replaced the plaster, where the tile was overlayed, with something else in the 70s when the room was remodeled. Here's a bunch of pictures. Any info would be appreciated!
