Install tile in plywood wall

Hi all,

We had new granite countertops installed and Iím going to install ceramic tile for a backsplash. The walls in this place are 3/4Ē plywood. I understand for a plywood floor I would need backer board. Can I install the ceramic directly to the plywood wall or do I need to add backer board?

Thanks,
Jim

Use a good latex fortified mortar (non pre mixed) and you will be fine!

Marq1 is right. You should be OK. Be careful that the plywood doesn't suck all the moisture from the mortar. Might want to wet the plywood.

I had a similar thought on this after I posted.

The comment about moisture is valid, a coat of primer might be a good precaution, it's certainly not going to cause any issues!
