Question

Should I complete all interior painting before or after laying ceramic floor tile throughout?

Either way. Are your baseboards installed?

John,
Thanks for your answer. I am planning to replace the baseboard so the edge of the tile will be hidden under the baseboard. Therefore the answer to your question would be no the baseboard is not installed. My question as to which to do first, paint or tile, is to determine which is less hassle;

1) If I lay the tile first getting paint marks on the tile

or

2) If I paint first subsequently getting tile dust on the walls and having to clean the dust off the walls after painting.

Does your question "Are the baseboards installed" relate to a problem I may have overlooked?

Thanks
LRH

Had the baseboards been in, I would have told you to paint them and then tile up to them. That way you wouldn't get paint on the tiles.

But the best way to do the job is to install the floor and lay the baseboards on top. This allows movement at the perimeter, and it's hidden by the baseboards. This, of course, entails painting the baseboards after the fact, but it's the best way to do the job.

Of course John is right, tile and then baseboards. However, prime and paint your baseboards before you install them. Then go back and fill and touch up the nail holes. It will look great.

Talking paint first

I re did a bathroom where i went right down to the studs now i'm no expert but i found painting was easier when i did it first. and touched up after the tiling. now I has smooth tiles which paint comes off of easy so i could have done it either way.
