Any suggestions on cheaper tile for a bathroom wall and floor? I was looking at these from home depot: https://www.homedepot.com/p/LifeProo...D1PR/304207361. Similar looking tile from a tile store goes for $7+ a square foot. Since this stuff is so much cheaper should I expect it to not hold up as well as the more expensive tile? Guess I'm trying to figure out what I'm loosing by pay $5 less a square foot.

 

I have had no problems using tile from either HD or Lowes. Never used that tile so have no experience wiih it.

 

I built my house on a screaming tight budget. I used a lot of Lowes and HD tile. I ended up cursing the cheap porcelain tile I got from Lowes. It was and still is indestructible. I could drop pieces on the floor and they just bounced. Traditional tile cutters just bent so everything had to be cut with a diamond saw. Carbide bits couldn't drill through it so I had to buy diamond bits. That cheapest of the cheap tiles still looks like new 18 years later.

5 years ago I remodeled our kitchen. Our budget had changed dramatically since I built the house so we got some rather expensive tile. Very beautiful but it is some the the crappiest quality tile I've worked with. Very fragile. It would break if handled roughly. It would break unpredictably with a tile cutter and the diamond saw went through it like butter.

Just because a tile is inexpensive doesn't mean it's not good.

 

When we did our walk in shower, we priced out similar tile at tile shop and Lowes, price was not as dramatic as your example but we went with Lowes and to date no issues with installation and or durability.

The tile was some type 3D printed tile so the patterns are limited and if you take the time to look you can find them around the shower!

 

Nothing wrong with buying inexpensive tile. There are issues with this type of tile that you should concern yourself with. Most important is how flat these tiles are. This kind of tile often has warping and cupping issues because of its size. As such you can often end up with excessive lippage/trip hazards. You'll need to check the tile for flatness, cupping and warping. When you install this tile the offset should be no more than 1/3 of a tile. That will help to minimize lippage. Use a good quality modified medium bed thinset mortar. I read a couple of the reviews and some of them had lippage issues.
