Shower wall tile over RedGard

My contractor enclosed the shower walls with green Sheetrock over the wall studs, then sealed everything with multiple coats of RedGard. Are we able to apply the tile directly to the wall now, or must there be some type of fiberboard used as well?

Welcome to the forums!

Why did he use drywall instead of cement board??
RedGard is formulated for tile to be set over it.

The only system that can be used over drywall is Ditra and Prova membrane.

Anything else your chance of future failure is good!

I would have fired him on the spot if I caught him doing that!
