Which size trowel is appropriate for 12x24 porcelain tile?

I'm doing my shower all and the floor in the same tile which is 12x24. The wall and floor are both hardibacker. I did some reading and is almost seems like I could go with a couple trowels. Home depot sells a 1/4 x 3/8 x 1/4 and a 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2. I figured I'd check in here. Your thoughts?

That is considered a large format tile, so you would use 1/2x1/2 and back butter the tiles.

Definitely back butter the tiles. I put a dollop of thinset on the back of the tile and use the smooth side of the trowel pushing hard to force the thinset into intimate contact with the tile. Make sure the entire back got a thin smear of thinset and don't be afraid to remove any excess.
