saltillo tile - cutting?
#1
I am laying square Saltillo Tile (aka Mexican pavers) over a concrete base, about 400 square feet.
1. What is the best way to cut saltillo tile? Can I use a manual saw vs. electric wet saw?
2. I plan on using basic mortar mix Type M, for the bonding agent between concrete and tile. Am I safe?
Thanks for the help. It is really hard to get information on working with Saltillo type tile.

Equis, (Dos Equis? Tres Equis?)
Although it's possible to cut Saltillo tiles with certain hand saws, it's not feasible on a 400 square foot job. Get a wet saw.
Type "M" mortar is a portland/lime mix intended to be mixed with sand. It's used for laying brick and block. It is not the material of choice for fixing Saltillo tiles to a concrete slab. Use thin set mortar instead. You can expect to get 35-40 square feet per 50 lb. sack. Make sure your pavers are damp when you install them.
