Hi. I'm renovating my guest bathroom. Ripped up the tile and cement board. Looks like some water damage between the tub and toilet area. I plan on using ditra over the sub floor. There's some slight give in the damaged area. Does this area have to be replaced? I'm a novice with sub floor issues, so how do I go about replacing if necessary? The house is 15 years old if that means anything. Thank you and HNY!!!
Yes, this needs to be addressed. Remove the subfloor and then ensure the structure underneath is in good shape or fix it before replacing the subfloor.
Water damage around the toilet is very common and does need to be addressed. Not only will a soft underlayment cause the tile to pop but in that area it can cause the toilet to leak... causing even more damage. You want the floor rock solid around the toilet.
Before I cut out the subfloor, I know I'm going to have to block the joists to create a "ledge" for the new subfloor patch to sit on. However I know I have engineered I joists. The pic attached is a view from my basement to my first floor. I know the joists are the same as where I need to fix the sub floor. How do I add perpendicular support between the I joists...how do I go about adding parallel (sister?) support to these I beams? Everything I found online shows non-I beam style joists. Thanks.
The flange is only about 1" wide. And the area between the top and bottom flanges is about 9" with the span between joists about 12.5". So you're saying cut a 2x9x12.5 and wedge it perpendicular. Then screw through the top flange into the 2X?
Going to install Kerdi around my tub. The studs are all even and level, but this one area above the window seems to be an issue. The horizontal board in the pictures protrudes about 1/4. inch beyond the adjacent studs. This is on both sides of this board. Should I chisel away at this board to make it even with the studs? How should I address this? Thanks.

Small gaps in shower wall grout - job is 12 yo. These have just appeared in the past year.
