Guys - we have this tile in our 1st floor bathroom and need to install a support bar for a senior person. Can I drill right into the empty spaces? Any other ideas? Thanks
Yes, it will be easier to drill into the grout than into the rock. You will either need a hammer drill and masonry bit or a regular drill and a diamond grit or glass bit.
Yes you can drill into the tile but if your installing a grab bar you have to be sure you either get to the wall studs or if that is not possible you have to use special anchors,
Despite comment about just drilling into the grout that is not sufficient, there are many special anchors available.
Remember somebodies well being is dependent on that being secure and there are ADA approved bars and mounts.
That rock surface is going to be a little challenging, needs to be looked at closely.
I'm planning on putting a 40"X 36" tile landing by our front entry door prior to having carpet installed. I bought a 1 3X5 sheet of Durock edgeguard cement board. Since I will need the full 36" on for the depth, can the edgegauard side butt up against the carpet and be tiled right up to it? Looks like a very small taper and that should work but wanted to check with others who have worked with the product - Thanks!Read More
Hey guys and gals, it's been a while. But I'm ready to tackle on re-tiling my small master bathroom, previous linoleum all removed and plywood subfloor all exposed. I plan to add Schluter Ditra decoupling membrane before putting the ceramic tile on top as it seems the thing to do these days, particularly in bathroom tile jobs. However, I was wondering if there was any pre-mixed thinset in existence for bathrooms that works with the decoupling membrane and the ceramic tile? The Simple Set I see in the big box stores look convenient because there is no mixing involved but it looks like those can't be used in bathroom applications (or can they?). Is there another brand pre-mixed thinset (I guess unmodified since I'm using a membrane), that is available out there in the market that can be used for bathroom tiling? I'd rather not mix because I'm not really good with portions, but if I have to, I will. Thanks in advance!Read More
