Question

I have purchased a home with several rooms of saltillo tile. After living here about two years, I am beginning to notice that some of the finish/color/shine seems to be scratched/pitted and simple cleaning does not fix it. I also dropped a bottle of perfume in the bathroom and it instantly removed the finish off those saltillo tiles leaving a permanent splatter pattern that wont clean off.

I know nothing about maintaining these tiles and have never done anything more than sponge mop them. Can they be restored to their former look? Must I strip it and refinish? If so, what are the products and the procedure or can you recommend a good book that would explain it?

From what you say, I think you need to strip and refinish the entire floor. You can have it done or do it yourself. We recommend the Aquamix products to the do it yourselfer.

I have also posted a brief article on Saltillo tiles on my site.
