Question

Hi all,
I just moved into a new house with the most hideous wall tile in the kitchen. I'd like to redo it, but I don't know how to remove the old first. There's plenty of info out there on installing new tile, but none on removing old. Does anyone have any helpful hints?

Thanks!

Is it an older house or a newer house?

An older house will have tile installed over cement mortar. Tear everything out right down to the studs and start over.

A newer house will have the tile installed over the sheetrock (wallboard). If you can't chip the tiles off the sheetrock, cut the sheetrock out right down to the studs and start over.
