is there enough of the old wood floor to refinish?
when you call in a professional, I had heard statements as to how many times the floor can be redone before it's worn out. How do they make a determination wether there is enough floor to redo, and can I make the same determination. Mine is an old fir floor

How many times can a wood floor be refinished?
On hardwood floors that are in otherwise good condition, unless you wish to change the stain color, resanding tends not to be necessary. The surface finish can be "screened" and new finish applied. Once sanding has removed the wood down to the tongue, then wood floors can not be sanded. You can go to www.woodfloors.org to learn more about wood construction. You can also go to www.finishingwoodfloors.com for helpful finishing info.
