I have removed old laminate from kitchen countertops. Surface is 3/4" plywood with curved ends. Can I apply thin set directly over the plywood and install ceramic tile? Plywood is in very good shape.

You can but I'd strongly reccomend using 1/4" or 1/2" cement backerboard first.

Hi: I am getting started on a kitchen remodel and have demolished everything down to studs and subfloor. I was intending to install Durock over the existing 1x8 (diagonal) subfloor, but am wondering if I wouldn't be better off with plywood from the standpoint of strength; the 1x8's seem a bit bouncy. I'd like to limit the thickness as much as possible to avoid a big difference in elevation at adjacent oak floors and the 1/2" thickness in either case will work great. What about an adhesive between the underlayment and subfloor, whichever I end up using? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. BruceRead More

We are installing 12x12 marble tiles on a concrete slab. After pouring self-leveling underlayment, there are still some very slight dips and rises. When we laid the tiles out in a dry run, there is some tipping to some of them. How much of this is acceptable, absorbed by the thickness of the mastik?:confused:Read More
