ceramic tile border on wall

Just laid ceramic tile on floor of bath and ready to put up 2 1/2 inch tile border on wall around perimeter. Is it best to stagger grout lines or match them up to floor. Or is it a matter of preference ?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Hi
I like to line them up...but that's just me....lay some out dry and stand back and look at them a while...then you'll get a better idea if you like it or not.

Exactly what I did. Hard to see in a 5x7 bath though ! Figured if I have a hard time seeing so will everyone else (except the mother-in-law) so it doesn't really matter which way !

Aligning grout lines

Most forum posters report that staggering grout lines between walls and floors tends to hide many sins. It is of course a matter of personal preference.

Finished grout today-looks good thanx to this site ! One question though: If you use a sealer on the whole floor , does that replace sealing grout lines as well. Is it preferred to seal whole floor as opposed to just grout lines ? Do you wait same amount of time to seal whole floor as you do before sealing grout lines?
O.k. three questions.

Thanx again, Bill

Sealing grout

Glazed ceramic tile does not need sealing. The glaze, which is kiln fired at a very hight temperature, seals the tile. The grout is however porous and tends to absorb oils, soils, and stains.
