victorian tile restoration

I have lifted the carpet in my new home, in South London. The floor was laid with real Victorian tiles circa 1870. Under the grime and dirt they are beautiful and I wish to restore them. Any advice on how to get them clean?

Visit the ceramic section of your nearest Lowes or Home Depot. Aqua Mix has a full line of cleaners and sealers and strippers. Tile Lab also has full line. You could probably find both on the web.

I notice that the cement mixture sold at craft stores for making stepping stones indicates the mixture contains portland cement and silica salt. A very small box sells for about $5 to 6, and it makes one stepping stone. Is this the same as the portland cement used for tile underlayment? Thank you.Read More
