New tile floor

I want to install tiles in my foyer, I ripped up the old lino and found floor construction to be, 3/8" plywood over 3/4" T & G 1 x 6. Will one more layer of 3/8" plywood over top be sufficient to install 12" tiles on? or do I have to use cement board?

Don't add more plywood, what you have is sufficient. Thinset and screw 1/2" cement backerboard to the plywood and then tile.

1/4 inch board will work to, if you have a height problem.

Demolition tips?

I am about to begin the demolition of my bathroom and welcome any tips and advice you have to offer. I need to remove the old thick set tile on concrete with wire mesh backing. I also will be removing an old cast iron tub. I've heard that a sledgehammer will take care of the tub. What would you recommend for removal of the tile and tub? I was thinking about an air hammer with a chisel bit. Thanks for your input and wish me luck.Read More

I am tileing my shower in my bathroom I had to start form scratch I put up all new 1/2" drywall the green stuff and then 1/4" Hardibacker over that. When I was screwing the backer board up I noticed that there was a stud missing at 16" on the to short walls. The area to be tiled is 3, wide there are studs at both ends but only one at 16" then its 20" to the next one. I was wondering if this will be a problem when I put the tile up I don't want it to sag and crack? If it is a problem I will have to unscrew the backer board and then unscrew the drywall and install the missing studs. Thanks ShannonRead More
