Ceramic Tile Backsplash

I AM TILING MY KITCHEN BACKSPLASH WITH SOME BEAUTIFUL TILE FROM SPAIN. I PLAN TO USE MASTIC IF IT WILL HOLD THE DECORATIVE PIECES. THERE IS A 8X12 PIECE AND A BORDER OF 3X8 PIECES. THESE PIECES HAVE RAISED DESIGNS SO ONLY THE EDGES WILL TOUCH THE MASTIC. DO YOU THINK MASTIC IS OK OR SHOULD I USE THINSET?

I've done exactly what your getting ready to with mastic and didn't have any problems. You can back butter the deco's to get a little more insurance. Don't back butter so much that your swimming in glue. I don't think thinset would grab any better unless you had cement board as your substrate.

Can you paint grout?

I'm doing a bathroom in my brother's house that's going to have floor to ceiling tile. Actually, it already does--I'm done with the tile and grout. But the thing is, my brother wanted this certain look of white walls, fading to blue as they went up. The pattern I did turned out great and he's going to paint the ceiling with a custom color of paint that matches the blue tiles on the walls. Now, here's the thing... the room looks good, even with white grout all over, but he'd really prefer the grout in the blue tile sections to be the same color blue as the tiles. So I was wondering if it's possible to simply hand paint the grout with the paint we got for the ceiling. It's a great match to the wall tiles, so it would give him the look he really wants. But, I don't know if this can be done. The paint is a semi-gloss latex. Anyone know if I can I use that on the grout? I don't think a regular grout colorant would work because of the preciseness of the color we're looking for.Read More

paint removal on ceramic tile - help!

help!!!!! I have begun trying to remove several layers of paint from some ceramic tile top and/or end caps. Yesterday, I used "/bix" and had no problems. Today....I am working in different areas of the bathroom and all that is happening is that it is just turning into a sticky goop. Can anyone help or tell me what is happening? This build up goes back numerous years. I don't understand why yesterday it stripped it off quite well and today on tiles right next to ones I did yesterday, it just turns to goop. Grrrrrrrrrr!
